Old Traditions Bear a New Face
In the heart of horse country, among the rolling fields of bluegrass, limestone rich soil, plank board fences lies a farm winery located five miles from downtown Lexington, Kentucky on Leestown Road. Twenty arces of Kentucky countryside nestled along the pure limestone water of the famed Silver Springs. Site of the historic Silver Springs Distillery, owned by early whiskey pioneers Nathaniel Harris and James E. Pepper. The distillery operated from 1867 until Prohibition of 1918. Today, because of its history and the plans for its use, the property is named Silver Springs Farm Eqwine and Vineyard—for the historic springs that nurture our sacred bourbon, the racehorses they breed, and now the wine from the grapes they grow.
